When the work for the season is done, and not often before, Imeños like to unwind with a night of chicha (a fermented brew, usually based on corn) and dancing. The music is one of the few older Guaraní traditions that have survived among my neighbors, even though the white landowners in the area (the karai) actively tried to abolish it. The music is all flute and drums.
Benito participates very actively in these fiestas, and may be the community's best flautist. Here he is with his brother, Don Angel.
