The greatest benefit of liberty --even more important, to the community, than regular medical attention-- is access to schooling.

The Bolivian government has done an excellent job providing elementary education in the new Guaraní communities. The schools are bilingual in theory, and almost entirely Guaraní, in practice. Qualified teachers must be very hard to find, but I've been very impressed with the generous and committed people who have worked in Imi.

Don Jesús Chávez, the current teacher in Imi, has 27 students in grades One through Four. Here he's giving Juliana Tañera a little personal attention.
