Another purpose for the meetings is to plan parties. Imeños seem to find an excuse to cut loose once every couple months.
This particular party is the arete guasu, the Guaraní answer to Carnival. It was planned in a regional meeting, and involved all four of the neighboring Guaraní communities (Ñaurenda, Ipäti, Anguaguasu, and Imi), starting in Imi and "progressing" north. A lot of people, a lot of chaos, and a lot of work.
