The Bolivian government has done a good job of establishing elementary schools in all of the new free Guaraní communities, but the only area school that goes beyond fourth or fifth grade is in Yaguapüa. Families living in other communities either had to send their older children to live in town or, since this is almost always prohibitively expensive, give up on the idea of further schooling.
Several years ago the Guaraní Regional Assembly in the Cañón del Ingre decided to establish a boarding facility (an "internado") in Yaguapüa, so older kids from other communities could continue school.
That Winter, the men from all four of the neighboring communities descended on Yaguapüa; they built a dormitory, a dinning-room/study-area, and a kitchen. In the Spring they all came back to plant two hectares of corn, so the kids would have something to eat. And thus was born the Internado San Jorge de Ipäti. The following January 65 kids, ranging in age from seven to nineteen, showed up to take advantage of the service.
(This is the dinning-room/study-area.)
Note: Unfortunately, not even the school in Yaguapüa covers all grades, so kids (like Anastacio and Héctor) still have to live in town if they want schooling beyond the equivalent of 10th grade.
