Doña Luciana doesn't know an awful lot of Spanish, but she was one of my favorite people in the community because she never failed to communicate confidence and good humor ... or at least, never except for this picture. It's not very representative, but I still like it.

Luciana lives in a little hut on a hilltop (shown in the early picture titled "The i in Imi") right across from my room. I could usually hear her at about three or four in the morning, pounding corn into chicha fresca so her husband would have something cool to drink during his workday in the fields.
