Like millet, sesame does very well in the Cañón del Ingre. I had problems with harvesting, too, though they were technical: the first year I planted too early and rain diminished the yield (I still got two kilos from a 15m2 plot), the second year I planted too late and the crop was ruined by a particularly early frost.
Still, again like millet, the main problem was that nobody knew what it was. Taste tests provoked some curiosity, but not enough to get anyone planting. This may be about to change. Somebody has planted four or five hectares of sesame along the highway running south out of Santa Cruz, and it's so beautiful a lot of people in Monteagudo are talking about following suit.
