Faustino became a particularly good friend of mine, of course, and I liked Doñita Lucia, too. Naturally, I was fond of their first daughter, Nectalí. She fell in the stream one day, and the mild cold she'd been suffering for a week or so developed into pneumonia. Faustino rushed her to the hospital in Rosario del Ingre, but there was nothing they could do for her there, so he and Lucia took her to Monteagudo, where she died, not even two years old.
